Our Reconciliation Journey: Innovate RAP 2025–2027

At K.I.N Care Services, reconciliation isn’t just a goal—it’s a promise woven into everything we do.

Our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2025 – 2027 reflects our heartfelt commitment to ending systemic disadvantage in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Based in the Moreton region and serving South East Queensland, we’re here to create a future where every child, young person, and family feels safe, loved, and truly belongs—within their homes and their communities.

Our Vision for Reconciliation

We envision a world where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have fair access to health and community services, reducing their overrepresentation in child protection systems. This vision drives us to offer culturally safe support that fosters choice, control, and self-determination. It’s about building bridges—connecting First Nations families with opportunities for healing, growth, and belonging.

How We’re Making It Happen

Since launching our reconciliation journey in August 2019, we’ve taken meaningful steps to embed this vision into our work:

  • A Diverse, Culturally Fit Team: Our staff bring lived experience and cultural understanding, with Aboriginal team members encouraged to guide us. We’re proud of our culturally diverse team that leads with wisdom and heart.

  • Listening and Learning: Our Reconciliation Working Group (RWG) meets quarterly, with eight members—including two First Nations voices—shaping our path. Yarning Circles offer a safe space for curiosity and knowledge-sharing.

  • Cultural Respect in Action: From Acknowledgement of Country at every meeting to celebrating events like National Sorry Day and NAIDOC Week, we honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures year-round.

  • Training for Change: Our team members have the opportunity to complete Cultural Competency Training, ensuring our support is trauma-informed and culturally appropriate.

Our RAP in Practice

Our Innovate RAP builds on our Reflect RAP achievements, with clear goals to deepen reconciliation:

  • Strengthening Relationships: We’re partnering with like-minded organisations and supporting cultural events to amplify First Nations voices.

  • Fostering Respect: Through staff engagement and anti-discrimination strategies, we’re promoting positive race relations across South East Queensland.

  • Creating Opportunities: We’re refining recruitment to welcome more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander talent and exploring procurement from First Nations businesses.

  • Transparent Growth: Our RWG tracks progress, reporting annually to Reconciliation Australia, ensuring we stay accountable and keep learning.

Art That Tells Our Story

In 2019, we collaborated with local Aboriginal artist Aboriginal Creations by Jordana to create a painting that captures our commitment. Displayed in our marketing, it symbolises our dedication to supporting families—Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike—to stay connected in safe, happy homes.

Why It Matters

Reconciliation is personal for us. With over 150 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages spoken in Australia, and a history of resilience, we see our role as supporting that strength. Whether it’s helping kids thrive in their early years, keeping families safe, or reducing justice system involvement, our four service streams—In-Home Family Support, NDIS, Therapeutic Residential Care, Specialist Services, and more—work holistically to bridge gaps and uplift communities.
